I had a great conversation yesterday with Kerry Siggins, CEO of StoneAge and author of The Ownership Mindset. Officially, Kerry was interviewing me to discuss my upcoming book Productivity Reimagined for her podcast, Reflect Forward. But on account of her knowledge and enthusiasm, I wound up asking her a lot of questions as well, so it was very much a two-way street. It’s great when an interview turns into a dialogue.
I had interviewed Kerry last year, and she provided some great input for Productivity Reimagined. What’s great about Kerry is the way she frames the ownership issue. Not only is she building a culture in which employees own all the aspects of their processes – safety, quality, customer satisfaction, supplier relationships – but they also own the company itself; StoneAge is now 100% employee owned. So, there’s great clarity around that message, which is why it resonates so well.
For Kerry, that ownership mindset is key to employee engagement, and that in turn creates the kind of workforce that can turn productivity into a competitive advantage. This is the kind of business model where everybody – employees, customers, suppliers, the community, the economy – wins.
The podcast will be broadcast on Reflect Forward in September, leading up to my October 8 launch.
